Louisiana Downs Ends Season with 16% Handle Increase

Louisiana Downs concluded its Thoroughbred racing season with a strong finish, reporting a 16% increase in all-sources handle. Total handle reached $44,840,138, fueled largely by robust simulcast wagering from around the country. On-track handle remained even with the 2024 season.

The 2025 meet was highlighted by standout performances on the track. Instant Replay surged in the final strides to capture the $250,000 Super Derby, thrilling fans with a dramatic victory. On Louisiana Cup Day, Six String successfully defended her title in the Louisiana Cup Filly & Mare Sprint, anchoring a competitive card that showcased the state's top racing talent.

The meet also celebrated its leading horsemen: Jonathan Wong secured the leading trainer title, while Joel Dominguez was named leading jockey.

"We are very encouraged by the increase in handle this year," Track President Kevin Preston said. "It's a clear reflection of the excitement surrounding our racing program and the confidence bettors across the country have in Louisiana Downs. We remain committed to building on the  success of this meet."

Director of Racing Roxanne Tanner echoed those sentiments, adding: "This meet had everything -- thrilling finishes, competitive fields, and national wagering support. I'm proud of the racing product our team and horsemen delivered, and we look forward to carrying that energy into the upcoming Quarter Horse season."

Louisiana Downs now turns its attention to its Quarter Horse season, which will kick off on January 19 and run through March 28.
