RANDEMONIUM SNARES FIRST STAKES WIN IN LOUISIANA LEGACY AT DELTA DOWNS

LITEUPTHENITE BREAKS HER MAIDEN IN THE LOUISIANA JEWEL –

VINTON, LA. – Delta Downs hosted a pair of $100,000 stakes races on Saturday night. The Louisiana Legacy and the Louisiana Jewel were both contested at seven furlongs. The Legacy featured 2-year-old Louisiana-bred colts and geldings while the Jewel field included fillies only.

Rand S. Metoyer’s Randemonium rallied late to capture the Legacy with jockey Edward Santiago in the saddle for trainer Benard Chatters.

Coming off an impressive win in stakes company at Louisiana Downs on August 30, Two Good Old Guys was sent off the heavy 3-5 favorite in the Legacy wagering and was sent to the front soon after the gate opened. The pacesetter appeared comfortable on the lead while clicking off times of 23.29 seconds for the opening quarter mile and 47.51 for the half mile. The favorite appeared to be on his way to another big win entering the stretch, but Randemonium had other ideas.

During the final eighth of a mile, Two Good Old Guys began to tire, leaving the door open for Randemonium and he took advantage of the opportunity by wearing down his rival and getting by him for a one-length win. Mr Mo Money settled for third, another two lengths back.

Randemonium covered the distance over a fast and sealed racetrack in a time of 1:28.34.

Randemonium has now won two of his four trips to the starting gate. He earned $60,000 on Saturday and now owns a bankroll of $98,300.

Bred in Louisiana by J. E. Jumonville, Jr. & Bunny Jumonville, Randemonium is a 2-year-old bay colt by Cloud Computing, out of the Magician mare Galileos Ballerina. He was purchased for $20,000 as a yearling in 2024.

Dismissed at odds of 10-1 by the public, Randemonium returned $22.60 to win, $6.60 to place and $3.40 to show. Two Good Old Guys paid $2.20 to place and $2.10 to show while Mr Mo Money was worth $2.60 to show.

The Jewel featured a dramatic finished between race favorite Liteupthenite and Swampy. Liteupthenite, under jockey Elvin Gonzalez, got the decision and in the process broke her maiden while winning her first stakes event for owner Norman Stables, LLC.

When the gate flew open, it was Whisper Me a Smile who took the lead and proceed to set early fractional times of 23.46 seconds for the opening quarter mile and 48.00 for the half mile. As the field entered the second turn, the pacesetter gave way to Sampy who slipped through at the rail and opened a narrow lead in the stretch. Liteupthenight, who was reserved early off the pace, angled outside for the drive to the finish and got up in the final jump to defeat Swampy by a neck. Varinisi was another 7 ½-lengths behind the top pair in third.

Liteupthenite, who is conditioned by Jayde Gelner, covered the distance in a time of 1:28.00.

The winner’s prize of $60,000 raised the bankroll of Liteupthenite to $103,520. The Jewel marked the third start in stakes company for Liteupthenite and it was her fourth start overall.

Liteupthenite is a 2-year-old chestnut filly by Aurelius Maximus, out of the City Zip mare City Gone Wild. She was bred in Louisiana by Channon Farm LLC.

Liteupthenite paid $3.80 to win, $2.20 to place and $2.10 to show. Swampy returned $2.80 to place and $2.60 to show. Varinisi was worth $3.20 to show.

Delta Downs will race again next week, Wednesday through Saturday. Post time each night is set for 4:45pm.
