A Night of Memorable Racing…Remembering Legends

On Saturday, June 6th, 2026, a large crowd filled the Evangeline Downs paddock and apron for a night of exciting racing. Six legendary horsemen were honored while a card of Louisiana Breds and their connections competed to be come the legends of the future.

Following a week of heavy rain the turf races were forced onto the dirt track, but the rain held off for the evening card of ten races, including six stakes worth a total of $600,000 in purses, all for accredited Louisiana breds. Well on their way to becoming legendary trainers, both Allen Landy and Patrick Devereux, Jr. each were represented in the winners circle for two $100,000 stakes, and jockey Timothy Thornton guided 3 of the 6 stakes winners to the finish line, Colby Hernandez gave him stiff competition as the mount on two to cross the finish line first.
